Impulsion is hiring one person

Every problem in a riding school is a people problem.

We've spent nine years making riding schools profitable. The thing that breaks our clients isn't marketing or pricing β€” it's finding good people and keeping them. We're done patching it ourselves. We want a partner to own it.

Revenue share, uncapped  Β·  Remote, US hours  Β·  First thing we'd do is put you on our stage, October 5–6

Why this role exists

We can fix a barn's numbers. We can't keep fixing its team.

Impulsion coaches riding schools to be horse-first profitable β€” marketing, websites, bookkeeping, taxes, our own software, and payroll next. Around 200 barns, nine years, a 30,000-name list of horse people.

And every year the same thing happens. A barn owner finally gets her numbers straight, hires an instructor, and eighteen months later that instructor opens up down the road with six of her clients. Or she can't find anyone at all, so she teaches forty lessons a week herself and calls it a labor of love.

β€œIt's not just recruit, hire, live happily ever after. Once they get there they need to be trained properly. Do you have your payroll set up? Your SOPs? A training period? Continuing education? Do you have a future for them?” β€” Brian Wee, founder

That's why this isn't a job board and it isn't a rΓ©sumΓ©-forwarding service. It's four things, and recruiting is only the third:

01

The readiness gate

Can this barn actually afford and survive a hire? We already hold their real numbers. If the answer is no, we say so and fix the revenue first.

02

Make the barn worth joining

Pricing, comp bands, SOPs, payroll, a training period, a career ladder. Nobody good joins a barn that has none of these.

03

Recruit and place

Instructors, barn managers, office admins. Sourced, screened, placed, and stood behind with a 90-day guarantee. This is your part.

04

Retention and protection

Onboarding, the seven reasons they'd never want to leave β€” and the legal layer that means it costs them if they take the clients anyway.

What you'd actually do

Hire for us. Then hire for everybody.

Hire for Impulsion

You own our own hiring first β€” delivery, ops, contractors. Low volume, high signal. It's how we find out how you work before a client ever meets you, and it becomes the story you sell from.

Build Impulsion Talent

Intake, sourcing, screening, shortlist, placement, 90-day follow-through β€” for our client barns. You own the scorecards, the comp bands, the SLAs. Build it so it runs on a system, not on your memory.

Hold the gate

Some barns can't afford the hire they're asking for. You'll tell them so and hand them back to coaching. It's the hardest part of the job and the reason generic recruiters fail here.

Be on stage and on camera

October 5–6 is the first one. Then the podcast circuit, our own content, and Barn Rescue β€” the show films now and airs in January. If being visible isn't for you, this isn't for you.

The first thing we'd give you

Our stage. October 5th and 6th.

Turf Valley, Ellicott City, Maryland. Thirty to fifty barn owners in a room β€” our clients, the people who buy. We want a dynamic session on building a team that actually stays, and we want you delivering it.

That's 28 days away. Which is the point. If you need three weeks to think about it, we're not going to work well together.

Who we're looking for

Both halves. That's the rare bit.

Almost everyone has one β€” a real recruiter who's never smelled a barn, or a horse person who's never run a search. We need both.

You must have

  • Actually recruited. Searches you personally ran and closed β€” with names and outcomes we can check. Not "I know everybody."
  • Real horse-world depth. You know what a working student is and you don't need the language explained.
  • The ability to say no. Screening is saying no all day, kindly and fast.
  • A love of technology. You'll live in our software and use AI daily.
  • High energy. Fast. Reliable. Consistent. Long-term focused.
  • You find solutions to our problems, not problems with our solutions.
  • You'll get on a stage. US hours, US clients.

Nice to have

  • An existing candidate database
  • An existing practice you want to expand
  • Payroll and HR-compliance knowledge β€” we're launching payroll
  • You've hired into a barn yourself and lived with it

We do not require

  • A rΓ©sumΓ© that makes sense on paper. We'll take a barn manager who has hired and kept forty people over fifteen years over a corporate recruiter who's never been to a barn. The questions below are how you prove it.

Horse-first profitability

We believe that profitability in a riding school should never come at the expense of the horse. Our mission is to help barns thrive financially so they can give horses the best care, rest, and retirement they deserve and create a small army of well-educated, empathetic future horse owners. By teaching schools how to be horse-first profitable we create businesses that are sustainable for both people and horses. We are committed to moving profitability and horse/human welfare forward together.

Horse usage

Horse usage is tracked and horses are not overworked.

Horse care

Horses receive the proper feed, farrier, and vet care they need.

Lifecycle & planning

Responsible owners know where their horses came from and where they end up β€” and have a plan to ensure horses don't end up in Mexico.

Our values

First class fulfillment and client results

We get clients unbelievable results and completely blow all competition out of the water. People grow by leaps and bounds in our program β€” and our clients love us. We move mountains for them.

Accountability

We own our mistakes, we apologize, and we make it right. There is no bullshitting or passing the buck here.

Speed

We get things done with 10x the speed of our competitors. You will never hear us say "these things take time." That is just an excuse for slow people. We can build amazing businesses quickly.

Communication

We are honest, transparent, and direct communicators with a fun bedside manner, so working with us β€” as a client or as a teammate β€” is fun, productive and positive.

The application

Fifteen minutes. Brian reads every one.

Applications close Friday 18 September. Strong applications get a calendar link the same day.

1 Β· You
2 Β· Your two backgrounds

You need at least one of these to be strong. We're hoping for both.

3 Β· Judgment

These are the ones that decide it. There are no trick answers β€” but there are wrong ones.
